Pigasus
This artwork was inspired by John Steinbeck's personal emblem, ‘Pigasus’, associated with the Latin motto ‘Ad astra per alas porci’ which translates to ‘to the stars on the wings of a pig.’
This phrase, often accompanied by a drawing of a winged pig, symbolized Steinbeck's belief that one should always strive for higher goals, regardless of perceived limitations.
Pigasus was created for the Otago Arts Society 149th Anniversary Show in July 2025 and the Artists’ proof sold on the preview night prior to the official opening.
